Once purchased you will have 90 days access to the Level 1 course. Upon successful completion of the level 1 course you will immediately be given 90 days access to the Level 2a Architectural Painting course, then the Level 2b Maintenance Repainting course, and finally to the Level 3 Inspection course

MPI Level 2a Architectural Painting
Description: MPI’s Level 2A training is the definitive course on new construction painting with a focus on how to assure success and avoid costly do-overs when working on buildings and commercial/institutional structures.
Topics Covered:

 

  • How to review basic paint specifications for new construction
  • Identify common flaws and defects in uncoated substrates
  • Evaluate existing condition of 25 of the most commonly used architectural substrates
  • How to select an appropriate system depending on substrate and exposure environment
  • Best practices for surface preparation
  • Basic quality control techniques

Course Format: Course is online. Exam is online and requires photo ID and Skype
Duration: 90 days to complete exam from date of registration
Exam Format: Proctored exam, taken online via Skype

MPI Level 2b Maintenance Repainting
Description: MPI’s Level 2B training is the definitive course on maintenance repainting with a focus on how to assure success and avoid costly do-overs when working on buildings and commercial/institutional structures.
Topics Covered:

  • How to write basic paint specifications for maintenance projects
  • Identify common flaws and defects in existing coatings/substrates
  • Evaluate existing condition of 25 of the most commonly used architectural substrates with MPI’s DSD (Degree of Surface Degradation) System
  • How to select an appropriate system depending on substrate, DSD level of existing coating and exposure environment
  • Best practices for surface preparation
  • Basic quality control techniques

Duration: 90 days to complete exam from date of registration
Exam Format: Proctored exam, taken online via Skype
Minimum Passing Grade: 75% or greater to pass

MPI Level 3 Inspection
Description: MPI’s Level 3 training is the highest level of commercial/institutional paint training offered and is the final and most comprehensive course in MPI’s training program. Graduates of this course will gain the knowledge required to add value to almost any aspect of an architectural/commercial paint project from specifications, surface preparation, application, quality assurance, as well as elements of inspection.
Topics Covered:

  • How to review detailed paint specs for any commercial/institutional projects (new construction & maintenance repaint)
  • How to use various pieces of testing equipment for inspection in order to provide a detailed evaluation of the surface
  • How to select the optimal coating system depending on condition of the substrate and/or existing coating, substrate, budget and exposure environment
  • Roles and responsibilities of all contractors and specifying authorities involved
  • How to document work to ensure job quality and adherence to specifications
  • How to interpret and review blueprints
  • Elements of Site Inspections

Duration: 90 days to complete exam from date of registration
Exam Format: Proctored exam, taken online via Skype
Minimum Passing Grade: 75% or greater to pass
Prerequisites: must pass all of the following courses to be able to take the Level 3 Training.
Required for: Professional Evaluation and Knowledge Appraisal Assessment (PEKA Assessment)

  • Level 1 – Essentials of Paint and Painting Technology
  • Level 2 A – Architectural Painting
  • Level 2 B – Maintenance Repainting

Accreditation Received: Trained to Inspector Level.
